Six top tips to add value to your home without breaking the bank 3 Jan 2020

Make your decor fresh and bright

Painting your walls will have a huge impact on the brightness and feel of your home. Light and neutral tones can make any room feel bigger and revitilised, creating  a blank canvas to attract more buyers.

You’re not just limited to painting the walls, consider the doors, skirting boards and window sills, but before you paint these would a good clean of these offer a cheaper and easier alternative? Don’t forget the front door!

You can still add splashes of vibrant colours, with artwork hung selectively around your home to transform any space.

Clear the clutter

Even the most beautifully decorated house can lose its appeal if it is full of clutter.  Take a little time to have a thorough declutter of your home, it’s easy to clear away the small ornaments, accessories and general household mess, but consider removing larger pieces of furniture, these can make a real difference to the feeling of space.

Regrout kitchen and bathroom

If your tiles are looking a little tired regrouting will make your kitchen and bathrooms sparkle again.  It is easy and cheap to do, and will have a big impact. We suggest giving the tiles a good clean first, then covering the old grout with new, or just using a grout pen. Once dry, clean again and you’re all done!

Finish the DIY you’ve been meaning to

Many of us put up with those little unfinished jobs on the DIY list, not completing these before marketing your property can knock thousands off your sale price.  Even replacing a light bulb can make a big difference!

Don’t forget the gardens

The front garden is often a part of the home which is forgotten!  Your buyer will spend a considerable amount of time looking at this in your picture and standing around chatting about your home after they have finished a viewing.  It is important to ensure this area is clean and tidy, if you have flower beds or hanging baskets make sure they are at their best.  If you have the option of placing the bins in a garage or shed for the duration of the sale this would also help.

Ensure that your rear garden is well groomed, the lawn is mown and consider cutting back any overhanging trees that will affect light in both the garden and house. Declutter any larger items that may get in the way, such as rubbish, washing lines and children’s toys.

Let the light shine

Light is often at the top of the list for buyers.  Use the natural sunlight in your home to its best, replacing dark heavy curtains and blinds with something lighter will allow sunlight in making your home appear larger and feel more welcoming.
